| Applications being accepted for Miss Idaho International
Applications are now being accepted for the title of Miss Idaho International 2007, an official preliminary to the Miss International Pageant that will be held at the North Shore Performing Arts Center in Chicago, Ill. The dates are July 23 to July 28, 2007. The woman selected as Miss Idaho International 2007 will serve as an ambassador for Idaho and receive an official crown and sash. Miss International 2007 will receive prizes and cash. There is no swimsuit competition. Competitions will include: Private interview (40 percent), Fitness Wear (20 percent), Fashion Wear (20 percent) and Evening Gown (20 percent). Women between the ages of 19 to 29 who are interested in applying should contact Mary Richardson, National Executive Director at (540) 989-5992 or via e-mail: director@miss-international.us. Junior days to be held on Saturday Junior days, a new program sponsored by New Student Orientation to assist juniors and sophomores in planning for the future, will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first floor of the John Taylor Building. Students who attend will receive free lunch, a graduation guide and admittance to the workshops. Students will learn about Academic Advising, Career Placement and more, which will help in planning for graduation and grad school. Students can RSVP by e-mailing orientation@byui.edu by 8 a.m. Friday. English Department Pre-Professional Conf. The year’s “biggest event” for English majors and minors is the upcoming Pre-Professional Conference. It will be held November 16 in the John Taylor Building, Room 120. Students were encouraged to submit various literary works including critical essays, poems, short stories or creative non-fiction pieces. Selected works will be read during the conference. Intl.’ students to have mandatory meeting The International Students Association will be hosting a mandatory meeting for all BYU-Idaho international students on Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Thomas E. Ricks Bldg., Room 147 at 6 p.m. Several speakers will be addressing students, including Mike Oswald, dean of international students, Clark Gilbert, director of the Heber J. Grant scholarship, Kristina Southam, student body president and Robert Mather, officer in charge of Boise immigration. Students are encouraged to “bring immigration-related questions, questions about internships, and anything related to international students’ welfare,” said Ajay Ajinwo, a junior from Lagos, Nigeria and president of the assocation. |
