Broadway babies make a break for Broadway Revue

“There’s no business like show business!”

This well-known quote, first featured in the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun, often conjures up images of tap-dancing men with top hats and gets show tunes stuck in people’s heads.

Here to bring a little piece of that Broadway sound is BYU-Idaho’s very own Broadway Revue.

Participants chosen by a panel of student judges will showcase their talents during a night of singing and dancing. Auditions were Feb. 21, and applicants were required to sing a song from any Broadway musical. Final participants were chosen based on talent, emotion and entertainment.

“It’s [going to be] such a fun show,” said Elizabeth Peterson, a junior studying communication. “The music is great, and a lot of it is recognizable. It’s fun to sing along.”

Having been a part of BYU-I life for about five years, Broadway Revue provides a variety of entertainment from solos singers to group numbersand range in topic from serious to humorous.

“We like to make a nice variety of a fruit salad,” said Myra Lindstrom, a freshman studying art and one of the judges for Broadway Revue.

Lindstrom also promised that the show would be very worthwhile.

“BYU-I has amazing talent on campus. [The performers] auditioned to share that talent with everyone. Come and listen to what they have!” Lindstrom said.

Not only is there variety in the songs chosen, but the performers themselves also come from a wide range of backgrounds. Jennie Jackson, for instance, has been singing since fourth grade.

“This is what I want to do professionally. Someday I want to start my own theater company to perform for underprivileged children, or kids with special needs,” said Jackson, a junior studying music.

Broadway Revue will be happening Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. in the Oscar A. Kirkham Building. Tickets are $2 each and may be purchased online□
