Comic frenzy gets a little jolly and joyous

At most shows and concerts, the audience focuses on the performers, but at Comic Frenzy, the audience is the show.

The improv troupe put on two shows Dec. 7 and 8 in the Snow Black Box Theater at 7 and 9 p.m.

As troupe members explain at the beginning of every performance, they just make things up as they go along and create their zany skits from suggestions from their live audience.

Comic Frenzy shows rely on the input from student spectators because students get to determine how the shows are going to run for the night.

Comic Frenzy shows contain a whole gamut of improv games and songs.

Many students at the 7 p.m. show on Nov. 7 show said they enjoyed the singing part because it was so energetic and different from other shows that they have been to before.

“My favorite part was when they sang; it was funny because sometimes someone would say something that didn’t make sense, and it kept the audience laughing,” said Kristine Mckee, a junior studying elementary education.

On one song, “Fa la la”, the troupe members each had take turns with each line and rhyme with a word given by the audience.

Although creating a show on the spot can be slightly stressful, having no script can have its perks.

“I like being in a situation where making a fool of yourself is not a bad thing,” said troupe member Jesse Thorson, a junior studying chemistry and biology.

And audience members seemed to not only enjoy Comic Frenzy’s random hilarity, but respect it as well.

“I think it’s really cool that people can make an entire show successful without knowing what they will be performing ahead of time,” said Jessica Hill, a sophomore studying communication. □
