Lights, musicians, cell phones, guitars and dancing couples are what could be seen Nov. 9 at the Hart Auditorium during the performance of Peter Breinholt and Sam Payne.
The concert began with Sam Payne, who, while he sang, would tell stories about his life and things he had learned. Soon after, Peter Breinholt was introduced and came on stage. The first time he performed at BYU-Idaho was in 1995, and he has visited the campus numerous times since.
Breinholt mentioned that Sam Payne would be releasing an album in the next few months with some of his stories and songs in it.
Breinholt told the audience that he recently had a 20-year high school reunion, so he played some ‘80s hits and invited the audience to dance.
Some of the songs were “Forever Young,” “Sweet Child of Mine” and “Open Arms.”
While Breinholt sang, couples from the audience moved out onto the floor and danced, and many sang along to “Open Arms.”
“This is a song to all the women and men who are leaving or returning from a mission,” Breinholt told the audience before singing “Open Arms.” He ended the song with the words “Now I am coming back home now, now I am coming home”.
The concert ended with a song called “Jerusalem,” written by Breinholt.
While Breinholt sang, he invited the audience to take out their cell phones and hold them in the air. He asked if the lights could be turned off, and the room was only lit by the cell phones and spotlights on stage.
Breinholt will return to Rexburg on Jan. 26 for a solo acoustic show in the Rexburg Tabernacle.
