A man in love with a green-eyed girl, a woman whose tear drops fall on her guitar and a fox on the run were just part of what the subject matter at Nashville Nights in the Kirkham Auditorium Nov. 2.
The first performers sang a Johnny Cash song entitled “I’ve Been Everywhere.” The lyrics mentioned going through deserts, over mountains, and even going to Rexburg.
Student band $2 Tuesday sang “Days Go By” by Keith Urban.
“Keith Urban is my favorite, and I really liked how they brought everything together with the guitars and singing” said Lydia Elizondo, a junior studying psychology.
Mitch Stephenson, a senior studying animal science, sang “Redneck Girl” and told the audience before singing, “This goes out for all of those who like to be a little redneck.”
He then proceeded to sing “I pray I’ll find me a redneck girl … come on give me, give me a redneck girl”. “I like to pick songs that have a little country, that are a bit older,” Stephenson said. “It is Nashville Nights.”
Hillbilly Trio, a group made of three BYU-Idaho students, sang a bluegrass song entitled “Roly-Poly.” Molly Davis, a freshman studying music, was asked to play violin for the group.
Davis explained the experience was a little different for her because she is a classical violinist and hadn’t done a lot of fiddling. However, with a little help from the other trio members, she said she was good to go.
“For me, it was just a new experience all around: the costumes, the style, everything,” Davis said. Jordan Tait, a sophomore studying theater and speech education, performed “I Don’t Think I Will,” by Bonamy James.
“Jordan’s voice was perfect and amazing, and that is why he was one of my favorite performances,” Elizondo said.
Overall, Nashville Nights audience members and performers seemed to enjoy the down-to-earth atmosphere.
“[There’s a] good crowd, good people, and good friends,” Stephenson said. “That’s what makes it a lot of fun.”
