Pumpkin bowling, bobbing for apples and broom racing are just a few of the activities that will take place at BYU-Idaho’s Halloween Carnival Oct. 31 at the Hart Fieldhouse.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun, and we plan on having a lot of people there,” said Dave Sorensen, a junior studying art, who is one of the students organizing the carnival.
Not only will the carnival include the common, traditional Halloween games, but there will be live music performed by students throughout the night. Some of the students signed up to perform include Jake Ballentine, Jessica Swain, Scott Foster and Dillon Finn.
“I think that having live music will be more entertaining for students. I’m excited to go and see the different kinds of music that will be played,” said Jessica Hill, a sophomore studying art.
While at the carnival, students can participate in booths set up by some of the associations and clubs on campus. Included are a contests as diverse as pumpkin-seed spitting to best costumes.
“It’s going to be a blast; there’s something for everyone to do, and there will be lots of food and music,” said Sarah Lyman, a sophomore studying elementary educaton.
One unique part about the carnival is that all of the proceeds will be donated to the charity United Way, which will distribute the money to other charities as needed.
“It’s a really good idea to donate the money to charity. It will motivate some students to go and shows that we can do something to help the community,” Hill said.
The cost for the carnival is $4, and it begins at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the Hart Fieldhouse. After the carnival, there will be a Top-40 dance held in the Hart Main Gym until 11:30 p.m.
Lyman encourages students to attend the carnival and “wear your costumes and obey the Honor Code.”
