We Shot the the Moon and Arizona to perform at Westwood Theater

Rexburg music fans aren’t used to seeing bands from New York and San Diego make a stop in Rexburg, but on Nov. 5 and 6, two bands will bring big-city rock to the Westwood Theater.

On November 5, newly formed San Diego band We Shot the Moon will perform along with It’s Like Love and local act Parker aka Preston Pugmire.

We Shot the Moon is led by former Waking Ashland frontman Jonathan Jones and includes Joe Greenetz and Dan Koch, who are also members of Sherwood.

The band just finished recording its first EP, and is eager to win crowds over.

“People can expect high-energy pop-rock with a good, friendly vibe to the show,” Jones said. “We don’t take our music too seriously; we just get up there and have a good time.”

Topside, a local beanie company run by Michael Braman, a sophomore studying business management, is sponsoring the show.

“I went to junior high with Jonathan, the lead singer, and we competed against each other in a battle of the bands,” Braman said. “So I called him up, and he gave me the information for his booking agent.”

Admission is $6, and doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The show will start at 6 p.m.

On the following night, Nov. 6, New York City quintet Arizona will bring their own special variety of psychedelic rock, accompanied by Kid Theodore and Rexburg’s own Fly Fight Crow.

“Aside from getting out to California for the first time, playing in Rexburg is the stop on this trip we’re most looking forward to,” said Arizona vocalist/guitarist Ben Wigler.

Arizona started out by playing at large amphitheaters with folk rock act Indigo Girls, but were asked to do a Rexburg show by Troy Richmond, a senior studying communication.

Admission is $5, and doors open at 7 p.m.

The new stream of national acts coming to Rexburg will continue with Cartel tourmates Weatherbox, from San Diego, playing with former Rexburg band Love You Long Time on Nov. 28 at the Westwood Theater located on main street. □
