The Theatre Department is putting on the action packed stage play Wait Until Dark in the Snow Black Box Theater on Oct. 17-20 and the week after, Oct. 23-27.
The play has an intricate plot involving a blind girl named Suzy, a doll containing hidden drugs, a stalker posing as Suzy’s friend and murderous men who will do most anything to obtain the doll.
The scary story is where the action starts.
“Imagine yourself in your room watching TV about a psychopath drug dealer who wants to kill someone,” said Gary White, a junior studying theater and speech education who plays the con artist Sergeant Carlino. “That’s scary, but only a little.”
The sinister plot plus a scary stage atmosphere will help to immerse the audience in the action.
“Now imagine that you are in the same room as the guy and the lights go completely black. For all you know he is standing right next to you,” White said.
Wait Until Dark involves the same characters and plot as the movie starring Audrey Hepburn, and comes in time for the Halloween season.
“Students will want to see it because it falls just before Halloween; its a murder mystery and is highly suspenseful.” said Roger Merrill, director of Wait Until Dark.
Although Wait Until Dark has a complex plot, it is possible for students to figure out the outcome.
“Students will discover that strength can come from the most unlikely sources,” said Jordan Tait, a sophomore studying theater and speech education who plays the character Mr. Roat. “I would say more but I don’t want to give anything away.”
The play is already sold out, but students can purchase standby tickets at the Snow Ticket Office.
