Hanging out? Whatever happened to dating? To answer these questions, Stephanie Fower, a graduate in communications from BYU in Provo, Utah, has written Meet Your Match.
This piece of “chick-lit,” better known as a romantic comedy, shows the ins and outs of dating. It illustrates the negative results of hanging out in a light-hearted and humorous way.
“I love to make people laugh,” Fower said.
The book includes pranks that actually happened at BYU, and contains plenty of characters that BYU-Idaho students may have encountered in real life: bitter boys (boys that are broken-hearted), burnt girls (girls who aren’t ready for another relationship), barnacles (boys that won’t give up), squirelly girls (girls who string boys along) and back burner boys (the boys who get strung along).
This book contains many real events and stories.
“Many of my friends wanted me to put things that really happened to them in my next book,” Fower said.
Fower’s book hit No. 1 on Deseret Book’s LDS Romance List, while Rules of Engagement, her first published book, is No. 8 on its list.
When she wrote Match, Fower wanted a guy’s perspective, so she asked her male friends questions that would help make her book more accurate.
Her questions included “What do girls do to turn you off?” and “Do nice guys really lose?”
Her book focuses on whether “the nice guy will win or the jerk,” Fower said.
Fower resides in Salt Lake City where she works at a children’s school for drama, teaching children ages 6-8. Fower grew up in Washington and is the fifth of 10 children. She also served a full-time mission in the Philippines. She loves to make people laugh and hopes to publish another book soon.
Fower will be at BYU-I for a book signings on Oct. 19 at noon.
