BYU-Idaho student defines sincere beauty

Most girls want to know how to be truly beautiful.

Leslie Cheret, a junior studying English Education, has found a way to teach girls how to do this in her recently published book, An LDS Girl’s Guide to Real Beauty.

Cheret wanted a book that could teach her daughter how to appreciate her outer and inner beauty.

She felt there was a need for a book that girls 10-14 could read and use to learn to become a better person without being totally overwhelmed. Cheret wants the girls who read this book to “be able to work through these issues at an early age.”

Cheret, whose oldest daughter was 10 at the time she started writing the book, wanted girls like her daugher to be able to feel comfortable with their “friends, body and clothes.”

She didn’t want girls to have to listen to their moms sermonizing about these issues. She also didn’t want the girls to feel like they were being lectured to, so she tried to give the book a “big-sister tone.”

An LDS Girl’s Guide to Real Beauty can be found at any Deseret Book. The book is “a fun and conversational guide to being beautiful, inside and out,” according to www.deseretbook.com. “From self-confidence and discovering your talents to healthy eating, make-up, and exercise, Leslie Cheret will help any girl feel beautiful.”

Cheret said that the topics in this book can apply to any female, including “full-grown women.” Her specific goal was to help younger girls get an early start so that they wouldn’t have to worry about their appearances later in life. □
