The Rex to hold re-opening to remember

With winter coming right around the corner, several students begin searching for things to do as the summer activities fade away.

The grand re-opening of the Rex, on Sept. 27, will allow families and students to participate in numerous activities.

The Rex, formerly known as American Family Entertainment Center, will hold an all-day event for the re-opening.

Anyone who brings a can of food will receive a free movie ticket for showings of The Truman Show that day.

“There will be several showings throughout the day,” said Kristy Reading, receptionist for the Rex.

All of the canned food will be donated to the Salvation Army.

The re-opening could be a good way to get college students involved in the community.

“I think it’s a great idea to get a free ticket for bringing in canned food. This is the kind of stuff that college students are always looking for,” said Jessica Hill, a sophomore studying art.

One of the major changes about the Rex is that new activities and attractions have been added.

Along with a movie theater and bowling alley, there will also be pool halls and video games, including X-Box 360 and Playstation 3.

Another unique aspect about the Rex is that none of the movies it offers are rated R.

“It’s a very family-friendly environment,” said Lance Wickham, general manager of the Rex. “There are many fun and wholesome activities offered here.”

The Rex could provide opportunites for BYU-Idaho students to have a good time without the pressures of the world getting in the way.

“[No rated R movies] promotes obedience to the Honor Code,” said Cody Decker, a sophomore studying business. □
