Disneyland ‘strutting’ its stuff at BYU-I

Disneyland is coming to Rexburg.

BYU-Idaho’s Center Stage Performing Arts is proud to present The Happiest Place on Earth’s very own Side Street Strutters Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. They will be performing a stunning show replete with colorful costumes, a stage set, tap dancing, vocal selections, novelty numbers and some unique musical instruments in the Kirkham Auditorium.

The Side Street Strutters incorporate a variety of musical styles, some of them with their origins dating back to over half a century ago.

The flavorful New Orleans style of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and Fats Waller; the classic taste of Gershwin, Porter and Carmichael; and the lively swing of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman are likely to be part of their performance.

This group has performed all over the country inlcuding Ricks College–before it became a four-year university.

Now that they are back, they are hopeful to have a great show once again, said Vince Verdi, a member of the Side Street Strutters.

“I would hope to see people having a good time and enjoying themselves. … We mix good music and entertainment,” Verdi said.

The early beginnings of the Side Street Strutters came about from the music they still cherish and perform today.

“We just had a love for music, and in particular, jazz,” Verdi said.

Ticket prices are $5 for BYU-I students and $10 for the general public. □
