A novel, a feature film and a birthday: This July belongs to Harry Potter

Rumors of Deathly Hallows raise the topic of death

Readers beware: The following article discloses potential information about the seventh and final installment of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

For a person who wishes to keep the last book in the celebrated series a complete surprise, he or she may choose to be oblivious to various rumors circling the Internet about how the Harry Potter series will end.

There are currently hundreds of Web sites dedicated to Harry Potter. As the release date for the seventh book draws near, dozens of these Web sites are dedicating themselves to possible happenings in the final book.

On harrypotterrumors.net, a Web site on which visitors have the chance to submit rumors, surfaced rumors include: “Something huge will be revealed about Lily Potter (i.e., the climax of the series!);” “Rowling has also confirmed that the last word in the book is ‘scar’;” “Sirius will be back! (He is not dead, just trapped in the veil);” “Harry and Draco will team up to fight an evil force;” “We might see an heir to Voldemort;” “The secret to Harry’s riches will be revealed;” “Harry goes to Azkaban. Not sure why... not even sure if he’s there because people think he did anything wrong.”

As the concluding book in the Harry Potter series, speculations regarding its ending may be especially prevalent.

According to an interview conducted by British Broadcasting Corporation’s Interviewer Jonathan Ross, Rowling finished writing Deathly Hallows alone in a hotel room.

“I was sobbing my heart out, I downed half a bottle of champagne from the mini-bar in one and went home with mascara all over my face; that was really tough,” said Rowling.

With such accounts of Rowling’s state in writing the book, many spectators believe Deathly Hallows will not have a happy ending.

According to msnbc.msn.com, “The plots have taken a darker turn and Rowling has in the past revealed that she would kill off at least two of the main characters.”

In an interview from todayshow.com, the actor who portrays Harry in the movies, Daniel Radcliffe, shared how he thought the final book would end. “I think I might die in it, but that’s just my prediction. I think so, but I’ve no idea at all; I have no inside hints,” Radcliffe said.

Many spectators, including some BYU-Idaho students, believe the ending of Deathly Hallows and of Harry Potter will be satisfying to Rowling’s varying demographic audience.

“I can’t wait to find out how Harry Potter ends. I have no idea whether we will see a happy or a sad ending, but I know that J.K. Rowling is an amazing author and would not disappoint her audience,” said Beth Womack, a freshman from Roseville, Calif.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows release date is set for July 21. □
