Filmmakers turn to Idaho for backdrops

After the unexpected success of Napolean Dynamite in 2004, the State of Idaho has been scrambling to attract more Hollywood films in an effort to the put the state on the map.

Once Napolean’s sensation swept the U.S., Idaho’s state legislature announced House Concurrent Resolution No. 29, which officially commends the creators of the film.

The Idaho Film Bureau has recently added Hollywood producer Kathleen Haase, who has been involved in the production of movies like “Die Hard 2,” “Affliction,” and “Detroit Rock City,” in an effort to attract more films to the state.

“With her experience and industry contacts, we hope Kathleen Haase can raise Idaho’s profile with film makers,” said Idaho Commerce & Labor Director Roger B. Madsen. “Right now Idaho is overlooked by Hollywood, and its talent pool is under utilized,” Haase said. “We aim to change that.”

Idaho may soon be watching more and more movies filmed in its own back yard.
