For many, the mention of this name will initiate a recital of some of Brian Regan’s most popular acts and phrases. “Take luck,” “You too” and even “Left leg BROKEN!” will infiltrate the minds and mouths of many followed only by the endless repetition and laughter of Regan’s numerous side-splitting skits.
Regan has recently been deemed one of the hottest comedians performing today by Comedy Central and can often be found performing in sold-out theaters across the nation. It was recently announced that he had plans to visit Idaho Falls this summer but not for his regular tour schedule.
According to The Bonneville County Sherriff’s Office and www.bcsar.com, Regan will be taking some time out of his 2006 tour schedule in order to visit Idaho Falls Civic Auditorium for a “Take Luck Benefit.” The benefit will sponsor Regan in concert on Saturday, June 17 and all proceeds will go toward the Search and Rescue teams of Bonneville, Bingham and Jefferson counties.
“The thing that makes Brian Regan so great especially around here is his clean sense of humor,” said Lila Strasser, a sophomore from Salem, Ore.
Listening to his acts, people often comment it is evident Regan has taken the higher road in his comedy career as he consistently refrains from profanity and similar offenses and focuses on more important matters in life.
“He takes everyday situations and makes them funny just by saying exactly what everyone already thinks but doesn’t want to say out loud,” said Kylie Jackson, a junior from Rexburg. “I’d bet you burn more calories watching him for 20 minutes than running a mile!”
In some of his most recognizable acts, he can be heard shedding some light on such issues as ridiculous diet crazes, childhood spelling bees, fights for the middle backseat and even favorite snow cone flavors. Regan isn’t curing world hunger with some of the topics found in his acts, but the comedy is clean.
“These days it is getting harder to find comedians that don’t swear or tell dirty jokes,” said Joel Strasser, a senior from Meridian, Idaho.
According to www.brianregan.com, Regan grew up watching clean-cut comedians such as Johnny Carson and Jonathan Winters. However, he credits much of his passion for comedy to Steve Martin’s “silly, but smart, comedic genius.”
Inspired by Martin’s clever humor, Regan began performing at a country club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., not far from his hometown of Miami in the early 80s. After performing in Florida for several years, Regan ventured to New York City and by the early 90s was appearing on national TV programs including MTV’s Half Hour Comedy Hour, Arsenio Hall and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
By the 90s, Regan won the American Comedy Award in 1996 and released his “Brian Regan Live” CD a year later. Showtime and Comedy Central even offered him his own comedy specials that same year.
