Finals week at the Testing Center is predicted to run much more smoothly than last semester as long as students and faculty follow the test week schedule, according to John Dexter, Testing Center director.

The test week schedule can be found by visiting www.byui.edu/registraroffice/TestWeekSchedule.htm. The site includes dates and times when certain classes should plan on coming to the Testing Center to take their exams. By following the schedule, students may not have to wait in lines for longer than 20-30 minutes, Dexter said.

The problems surrounding the long lines students waited in during fall semester were the longest on Wednesday, following the Tuesday Reading Day. Numerous complaints were received from students who felt inconvenienced and angry about the time they spent waiting.

“The only thing that I can determine [as the cause] is student panic,” Dexter said. “I don’t think the Reading Day affected it. … This semester we are implementing two lines, a priority line and a standby line. To get into the priority line, a student would be here during the two hours when that test is scheduled. … I foresee the priority line to finish up early if students come early during the time defined by the test week schedule.”

Students who choose to go in the priority line will be asked to scan their student I-card into a computer. If they have come at the scheduled time for their test, they will be permitted to take it, but if they arrive at any other time they will be required to move to the back of the standby line.

“The Lord’s hand was involved in the design of the Testing Center,” Dexter said. “The balance is divine in nature. [Students] need to plan from the first of the year and not plan on getting an airplane ticket at the first possible time and try to get in for the their test on Wednesday morning. It isn’t going to work.”

Test week will begin on Wednesday, April 26 at 7 a.m. and will continue until Friday, with the last test going out at 1:30 p.m. Online tests will be administered in the Mckay 344.
