A new business relieving newly weds of generic guest memory books has come to the BYU-Idaho campus.
Student entrepreneur Karli Cleaver, a senior from Nyssa, Ore., has started and individualized a book-making business called Because of You. A long time scrap booker, Cleaver worked for Provo Craft’s dream team, where she learned the art and business of making books.
“I love creating things,” Cleaver said. “When I saw an opportunity to do this as a profession I jumped on it; who wouldn’t want to have their dream as a job?”
Cleaver specializes in wedding guest books, making every book as personal as possible.
“I think it is so important to show the love we have for other people; this is a really unique way of doing that,” Cleaver said.
Students at BYU-I can have a guaranteed one-of-a-kind wedding guest book.
“I wanted a guest book that was original, that we would look at more than once before putting it on some bookshelf,” said Jilinda Wray, a junior from Lehi, Utah. “The book was perfect. People felt like they could write more than just their name; it made it a lot more personal.”
The variation in the books is also a big selling point for Cleaver’s customers.
“I had Karli make a 25th wedding anniversary book for my parents. I loved it; she did an impeccable job, catering to exactly what I needed,” said Natalie Eames, a recent BYU-I graduate from Rupert, Idaho.
Cleaver allows customers to fill the books with their own pictures, letters or themes.
“She did the book with our [wedding] colors and added our engagement photos to each page. She is so creative and made sure I got what I wanted,” Wray said.
Cleaver focuses on “their color and basic interests; books are unique to person and occasion. Right now I am working on one baby book and I just finished one for my husband and I called, ‘Facts About Us’; it’s just really fun,” Cleaver said.
The cost for wedding guest books is $40, and other books are $50 plus the cost of supplies.
“I think Karli definitely has the talent, motivation and passion to do this job. She is extremely good at it and adorable,” Eames said.
