Those living in the Rexburg area will soon have another way of communicating with each other.

Thelocalvibe.com is a new Web site based on the Rexburg community. BYU-Idaho student organizers Adam Odd, a sophomore from Rainier, Wash., and John Walker, a senior from Medford, Ore., hope thelocalvibe.com will be a valuable resource for the community.

Web site organizers have already found a way to contribute to the community. Recently, the site hosted the Rock for a Cause concert. The concert was held as a benefit for the Westwood Theatre, which is in the process of being renovated.

Rock for a Cause was held April 8 and raised between $550-600 for the Westwood. All proceeds were donated to the city.

About two weeks before Rock for a Cause, thelocalvibe.com helped to organize a Hysterics show to benefit the hospital. The show was able to raise about $600.

“We are so grateful they chose us to donate to. They could have chosen anyone but they chose this hospital. … It will help five other counties as well,” said Sharon Pirente, hospital spokeswoman.

The Hysterics show was a precursor for Rock for a Cause to make sure the Vibe was organized, Walker said.

Thelocalvibe.com will post movie show times and other various events happening locally. It will also have different reviews, such as fashion and entertainment reviews to begin with, Walker said.

Currently the Web site has places for news, blogs and forums. Ideally, thelocalvibe.com will be fully operational within the next few weeks.

The Web site organizers are able to operate the site through revenue from advertisements.

In order get information on local events, community members must register and log in.

“Members have to register to blog and upload just so that we have administrative control so that no junk gets uploaded,” Walker said.

In order to register for thelocalvibe.com, community members can go to the site and click on register.
