Laughter, drinks and live music filled the new café, Heart, Mind and Soul at the run through Friday, April 7.

There are many entertainment opportunities at the new business, which officially opened April 8.

“[Heart, Mind and Soul will] change and challenge what everyone has seen [in Rexburg],” said Alexander Chester, owner of Heart, Mind and Soul. “It’s a place to come and relax. Just come in and take your mind off it all.”

There is more offered than just enjoying the atmosphere. Competitions similar to American Idol will be held. Not only will performers get to share their skills, but winners also get a record contract. A similar competition will be held for comedians.

Several projectors will allow sporting events and the live performances to be viewed all around the café. The Soccer World Cup is a popular event that will be broadcast.

There will be theme nights with different kinds of music such as ‘80s, blues and classical music. “Well-selected, popular music will provide something for everyone,” Chester said.

Music and entertainment are not all Heart, Mind and Soul will have to offer. Fresh-baked whole wheat bread, lean meats and fresh fruit smoothies promote good health. “[This provides] an atmosphere safe, healthy and fun,” Chester said.

“I look forward to working with the co-workers. I’m excited to be in an outgoing environment. It’s going to be totally different than what’s in Rexburg. That’s why it’s going to be fun,” said Jessica Hammond, an employee from Boise, Idaho.

Another employee, Anna Pew, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, is excited for the opening of the new café. “Everyday I tell [people] about it,” she said.

“[Heart, Mind and Soul] started out just as a thought of a karaoke place…except not dark and dingy, but something spectacular,” Chester said. He wanted a good place for people to meet. He also wanted a place to hold a business meeting without having to buy a large dinner, Chester said.

“I didn’t always want to eat when I was having a meeting,” Chester said. “The [café] will provide a comfortable meeting place where you can be entertained and without any pressure of spending a lot of money.”
