For some mothers and students it is a time-honored tradition to attend the BYU-Idaho Dance Department’s production of Extravadance.
Mothers’ and students cheered the dancers in their latest production March 17.
Kami Townsend, a senior from Plflugerville,Texas, and her mother, Jami Townsend couldn’t decide on just one favorite performance. ‘Music of the Night’ was my favorite,” Kami said.
Scrolling down the program Jami tried to find the name of her favorite performance with the men. “Gumboots was fabulous,” Jami said.
They both impressed with the ballroom dance and the Irish river dancing.
“[The dance] element was expressive with their costumes,” Jami said. “[The] costumes were so modest, but so exquisite, elegant and exciting.”
Jami said when you compare the performances of BYU-I versus those of the rest of the world, the rest of the world is dark and the costumes are hardly there. BYU-I’s performance demonstrates true beauty and wholesomeness.
Jami and her daughter Kami have attended Extravadance for five years.
“It’s the best I’ve seen in five years,” Jami said. With all the activities on campus to attend with her mother Kami said, “[Extravadance] ranks in the top five.”
Niki Hawkes attended Extravadance with her son Bryant Hawkes, a junior from Twin Falls, Idaho. Niki has attended the show since she attended the school, back when it was Ricks College. Niki has a nephew, Josh Hawkes a junior from Ashton, Idaho, performing in Extravadance with the World Dance Company.
“[The show] was very diverse and so entertaining,” Niki said.
