For one night, the Kirkham Auditorium became Broadway.

Broadway Review was held March 17 and both shows had sold-out performances.

The performers were there to have fun, but some had another reason for being there that night.

Brandon and Barton Sloan, both sophomores from Butte, Mont., sang in Broadway Review as a birthday present to their mom.

Brandon and Barton’s girlfriends took the men’s mom to the concert and wouldn’t let her see a program before the show started.

“She had no clue about it until we walked on stage. She’s always telling us to audition for things,” Barton said.

“It was a complete surprise for her to see us up there,” Brandon said.

The song they sung was “Agony” from Into the Woods. In the song two Prince Charmings sing about the women they love, but can’t have.

“We chose the song because it’s a funny number. It fits our personality,” Brandon said. “Plus we get to carry swords and wear tight pants.”

Most of the performers wore costumes for their numbers.

Mandi Barrus, a junior from Idaho Falls, said one reason she picked the song she did was because she got to wear a big, poofy dress. She also sang a song from Into the Woods, about Cinderella losing her shoe on the steps of the palace.

One duet was sung by a brother and sister couple, Jacob Wadsworth, a senior, and Sylvia, a freshman from Pocatello, Idaho. They chose their song “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun because they didn’t want to sing anything “lovey-dovey”.

At the end of the concert, audience members voted for two favorite numbers. The results won’t immediately be known, but the winning numbers will perform April 21 in The Best of Show! concert. The show will include numbers from Guitars Unplugged and Grand Pianos Live.
