Several Web sites have attempted to join Latter-day Saints singles throughout the world together in eternal love and bliss. But a new Web site is taking a different approach to connect the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Brothers Chris and Cory Waldal created the Web Site, www.rulds2.com, because they wanted to unite their local LDS community around Boise, Idaho.

“My brother and his wife are pretty adventurous. They like to hike and bike ride a lot. But his wife is from Utah, so she isn’t used to the area and doesn’t know very many people around here,” Cory Waldal said.

Chris and his wife took to the Internet to try and find local LDS people to hike and bike with them. They couldn’t find a Web Site providing a way to meet local people with the same interests.

Then the idea came to Chris and Cory.

“We saw there was a need to connect people locally and even across the world. We wanted a safe place on the Internet for people to go to and talk with other LDS people without the fear the Internet normally brings. We didn’t want anyone afraid of being stalked or anything,” said Cory.

Www.rulds2.com was officially launched Feb. 3, 2006. There are currently over 50 members, and the site continues to grow.

“We’ve only been up and running for about a month now, and so it’s great that we already have 50 members. And we keep hearing stuff back from people on the site, telling us how much they love it,” Cory said.

RuLDS2 differs from others LDS Web sites in that its primary purpose is not to get singles dating. Instead, the site provides forums, galleries, polls, quizzes, classifieds and more.

Cory said www.rulds2.com differs from myspace.com in that their Web site is safer.

“Chris acts as the administrator of the site, and I help out with that too. We read everything that anyone writes before it goes on to the Web site, and we view every photo before posting it,” Cory said.

The focus came to unite LDS people because of the strong sense of ethics they have.

“LDS people provide a safe-haven. The Web site would be a safer place for everyone if all the members were LDS. It just attracts the right kind of people,” Cory said.

Mark Rigby, a senior from Everett, Wash., said he would check out www.rulds2.com if it is safer than myspace.com.

“I would definitely use a Web Site that connects LDS people. I get so sick of the obscene ads that myspace.com has,” Rigby said.

Other students aren’t quite as excited as Rigby. Rachel Vincent, a junior from Modesto, Calif., said the Web site wouldn’t make much of an impact on her.

“I don’t know if I would use it or not. I’m not really involved in the Internet chatting world,” Vincent said.

The creators of www.rulds2.com hope to overcome the stereotype of Internet chatting by continuing to offer a variety of focuses and a wide range of interests for all their members.
