SCROLL CHATS WITH MARY ANN
ABOUT ’GILLIGAN’S ISLAND’

AP Photo Archive

Q: What is your favorite memory of Gilligan’s Island?
A: You didn’t see this on television, but a lion broke loose and went after Bob (Gilligan). He was ready to defend himself.

Q: Did you ever expect the show to get as big as it did?
A: No, not at all. I was brand new in the business, and the critics hated us.

Q: What is the most common question people ask you?
A: Where did you get all the clothes? And if the professor could build a radio, why couldn’t he build a boat?

Q: Do you still keep in touch with people from the show?
A: Yes. There are three of us left. We lost Gilligan recently. We were a close-knit group.

Q: Do people often recognize you?
A: Everywhere, it’s amazing.

Q: Did you really get to eat coconuts?
A: Absolutely. We ate coconuts, pineapple, shrimp … I personally make a really good coconut cream pie. And I have my own cookbook out with 13 coconut cream pie recipes.
