For those who have ever watched the part on Disney’s Robin Hood where Prince John holds an archery tournament and Robin disguises himself and wins first place, and thought to themselves, “That would be fun to watch,” now’s their chance.
The Upper Snake River Bowmen are holding an archery tournament Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Madison County Indoor Fairgrounds arena in Rexburg.
“People are getting into spring fever,” said Jim Meldrum, long-time archer and member of the USRB. “They can still stay indoors and stay warm and have fun.”
This will be the second year the contest will be held indoors, with the making of the USRB tournament an annual event.
“We had shoots in the past, but last year was the first one we had indoors at the fairgrounds. It was such a hit last year that we figured we should do it every year,” Meldrum said.
The annual archery tournament will be known as “The Dirty Harry Indoor Shoot,” when it will be dedicated on Saturday to one of the original founders of the organization, Harry Brunsom.
“He’s done a lot for the sport in this area,” Meldrum said of Brunsom, who used to make the arrows used by BYU-Idaho students in their archery classes.
With an entry fee of $8 for members of the USRB and $12 for non-members, people will be able to participate in shots up to 40 yards away.
