Fantasy books make a comeback

It’s official — books are back in. And fantasy series are making a comeback. Old favorites are finding new popularity and new fantasy novels are finding their niche with both children and adults. Although the big screen adaptations are visually stunning, these books have attracted loyal readers who eagerly anticipate each page turn.

Eragon and Eldest By Christopher Paolini

Volumes One and Two chronicle the life of young Eragon and his dragon, Saphira. Eragon discovers he is part of a noble line of Dragon Riders who have special talents and abilities, including talking with dragons. Eragon is swept into an epic adventure of magic, power and destiny. The third and final volume of Paolini’s Inheritance Trilogy is still being written.

Harry Potter By J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter is not just a normal boy; he is an extraordinary wizard. Upon discovering his wizarding heritage on his 11th birthday, Harry departs for Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he learns to develop his magic skills and comes face-to-face with his nemesis, Lord Voldemort. There are currently six books in the series and one final installment in the works.

The Chronicles of Narnia By C.S. LewisOver

60 million readers have discovered the magical world of Narnia, according to books.narnia.com. The seven books in the series follow the lives of the four Pevensie children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. They join forces with Aslan, the great lion, to defeat the forces of evil which threaten to overtake the enchanted world of Narnia and they discover that adventure awaits them at every turn.

The Sword of Shannara Trilogy By Terry Brooks

Shea Ohmsford lives a peaceful life in Shady Vale until one day the unexpected arrival of the druid Allanon changes everything.
