With the start of a new semester, the studying begins. Here are some study tips to help you get the GPA of your dreams.
Studying
1. Study during daylight hours.
2. Review difficult subjects first while you’re still fresh.
3. Have a set homework time.
4. Avoid marathon cram sessions.
Reading Textbooks
1. Learn how to study a textbook rather than simply reading it.
2. Read your textbook in segments, recite after each section, then review what you read.
3. Write down questions about your assigned reading to ask in class.
4. Keep a dictionary on hand for referencing unfamiliar words.
Time Management
1. Prioritize all activities including free time.
2. Use a semester calendar to see when exams and projects are due.
3. Learn to say “no” when others want you to play before studying .
4. Use the idle time between classes by studying notes or flash cards.
Lifestyle Management
1. Eat properly.
2. Schedule regular exercise and proper amounts of sleep.
3. Don’t worry about things that cannot be controlled.
4. Listen 70% of the time and speak only 30% of the time.
Preparing For Exams
1. Learn the professor’s testing style.
2. Predict questions the professor might ask on the test.
3. Review notes, textbook chapters, homework and tests.
4. Begin preparing two to three days before tests, not the night before.
