Vibrant acrylic paintings of familiar and loved characters like the mischievously smiling Cheshire Cat and Alice, the larger-than-life Genie and Aladdin and the elegant Elf Queen are found in the Spori Art Gallery, which is featuring The Hildebrandt Brothers’ Illustrations this month. The theme of the exhibit is “Lord of the Rings and other favorite fairy tales.” 

Greg and Tim Hildebrandt became internationally known after the poster for the original Star Wars and Lord of the Rings calendars in 1976, 1977 and 1978.They have worked for several popular companies, including Marvel Comics, Franklin Mint and Lucasfilms.

Gerald Griffin, Spori Art Gallery director, got the exhibit through UVSC’s gallery director Marcus Vincent.

“I sent down our pop art exhibit, which includes work by Andy Warhol, and came back with the Hildebrandt brothers’ illustrations,” Griffin said.
