Fine Arts 100 the dreaded course all students will eventually have to encounter before leaving BYU-Idaho. However, there are a few helpful tips that can make the requirements seem easier and ensure a fast path to FA 100 success:
1. Don’t procrastinate! Some of the events, particularly the lectures, are only offered the first weeks of the semester. Make sure you plan ahead and are able to attend the events early.
2. Dress accordingly. Some of the events require concert dress ladies, this means a dress or a skirt, not pants. Gentlemen should wear a tie. Those who do not meet these requirements will not be admitted into the event.
3. Pick up an FA 100 form before the event. There will be ushers at the main entrances handing out the forms.
4. Bring a pencil. Instead of frantically searching for one and disrupting the concert or event, come prepared.
5. Make it fun! FA 100 doesn’t have to be something everyone dreads. The purpose of the course is to enhance and create a better knowledge of fine arts among students. Most of the events are meant to be enjoyable. So sit back and take the opportunity to indulge yourself in something new.
6. Bring a friend. One of the best ways to enjoy the events is to bring along a friend. Whether it’s a Saturday-night date or a roommate bonding session, invite someone else along and make it a night out.
7. Remember to turn the FA 100 form into one of the ushers. There is someone waiting at most of the main entrances after the event to collect the forms. Make sure your form makes it into that pile.
8. Visit the Web site to check your status and receive more information. The FA 100 site under “academics” on the university Web site is a great resource. Use it!
9. If you are especially eager, you might consider taking the one credit option which requires more events and therefore allows you more dating opportunities. Make a goal to bring a date to each event.
