The Museum of Idaho is currently displaying American Indian artifacts. The exhibit, “Secrets of the Cave,” consists of thousands of arrowheads, moccasins and knives found in caves near the Great Salt Lake in northern Utah.
The artifacts, some of which date back 10,000 years, are very delicate. The exhibit comes from the private collection of John Mattson, a resident of Orem, Utah. His friend, Paul Kelly, viewed the artifact display.
“It is a magnificent collection. Truly remarkable,” Kelly said.
The collection is the largest privately owned Native American collection in the world. This is the first time in 40 years it has been put on display, with the many added artifacts found in that time.
Along with the moccasins and arrowheads, the exhibit shows off a display of weapons used by Bannock tribes. All are in very good condition.
The exhibit will be on display until Jan. 14. The cost is $6 per person.
