Missionary killed, another wounded in Va. shooting

A Latter-day Saint missionary was shot and killed last Monday.

Elders Morgan Young and Joshua Heidbrink were proselytizing around 6 p.m. Monday when they heard gunshots. The elders witnessed a shooting and were shot in return.

“James Rickey Boughton Jr., 19, was arrested Wednesday, at his Chesapeake home and was being held without bond,” Va. police told the Associated Press. “He is charged with first-degree murder and malicious wounding, among other counts.”

The elders were serving in the Virginia Richmond mission.

Young was from Bountiful, Utah. He had two months left in his mission before returning home. Heidbrink is from Greeley, Colo.

“Our hearts are broken for [the Youngs’] loss.  Joshua is at home now recovering.”  Heidbrink’s parents said.

Funeral services for Young will be held Tuesday in Bountiful.
