Hooray for freedom of religion!

what's your tribe?

Suppose you wake up tomorrow morning to a world devoid of Relief Society, CTR engagement rings and tearful testimony meetings. What would your life be like without The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Many of you may not have a clue. The Church permeates so many facets of our lives. You may find yourself wondering what other people do on the last Sunday of the month. Or perhaps you would not be able to deal with the sheer number of clothing styles you would have to choose from.

Another question: If the Church wasn’t here, what religion would you choose? A person’s religion says a great deal about who he or she is. So, in the words of the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, “Who are you?”

Bad with technology? Try The Society of Friends, also known as the Amish.

Got a good sense of direction? Maybe Islam is the religion for you.

Are you great at memorizing? Catholicism may be right up your alley.

Have you always had a special place in your heart for those of the bovine persuasion? Go Hindu.

Do you just love traditions? Well, my friend, Judaism might just float your boat.

Now please don’t take my simplifications as anything but good, clean fun. The truth is that I have the utmost respect for each of the aforementioned religions, and many others as well. In fact, I think it is essential for each person to explore as many religions as possible and search for the truths each one of them holds.

I believe that an important part of being a member of any religion is knowing how that religion relates to others. That broader knowledge brings added depth to beliefs and even a greater conviction of truth.

Don’t be one of those people who believes that ignorance is bliss. I encourage you to consider the question, “If I wasn’t LDS, what would I be?” Your answer may surprise you.
