Douglass Swager of Rigby, Idaho, was driving north on Hitt Road toward U.S. Highway 20 Sunday when he was allegedly carjacked.

Swager stated that a vehicle came up behind him and flashed its lights, according to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff.

Swager said he pulled over to let the vehicle pass. When the car passed it stopped in front of him, blocking the road.

Police reported a man stepped out of the vehicle and pointed a rifle at Swager. The man demanded Swager’s possessions, and Swager gave him his wallet, phone and tobacco.

Swager said the man threatened to shoot the vehicles tires and hit the car with a bat.

The suspect got in the vehicle and left driving north on U.S. Highway 20.

Bonneville County Deputies radioed Idaho State Patrol, Jefferson County and Madison County to watch for the vehicle. It was located on U.S. Highway 20 at milepost 333.

Officers took Richard Victory of Rexburg into custody.

He is being held in Bonneville County Jail in lieu of bond as of press time.
