Christmas Tree Lane is back this year with over 40 festive trees on display in the Manwaring Center second floor lobby.
The exhibit, sponsored by Activities for Women Students, follows the theme “A Magical Christmas” and will be on display Dec. 1-13.
“The fun part about Christmas Tree Lane is that the trees are decorated not only [according] to the theme but to the group [who decorates it] as well,” said Kris Fillmore, enrichment activities manager of Social Activities and AWS adviser.
The campus organizations, church wards and other groups who participate each had the opportunity to win one of many cash prizes offered such as this year’s grand prize of $100.
Lindsey Clement, a sophomore from Yakima, Wash., and her roommate Delta Cook, a freshman from Provo, Utah, decorated their ward Christmas tree Tuesday afternoon.
Clement is on the BYU-Idaho 52nd Ward’s activities committee and was assigned to decorate the tree that would represent ward members from the Royal Crest and Breckenridge apartment complexes.
“I think it will do well [in competition],” Clement said. “The tree is very flashy and color coordinated.”
Another tree decorated at the same time as Christmas Tree Lane is the Giving Tree, sponsored by the Activities Service Office.
Unlike the other trees, this one is located downstairs in front of the University Bookstore.
On this tree, students will find candy-cane reindeer with tags that contain the age of a boy or girl.
If students would like, they may take a reindeer and buy a gift according to the age and gender on the tag.
“We ask that the students wrap the gift, with the description on a tag or outside of the gift, (gender and age), and return it to room 380 in the Manwaring Center by Dec. 9,” said Talise Dubois, a junior from Osseo, Minn., and Outreach Committee chairwoman in charge of the project.
“I really hope the student body gets into this, so that we can help kids in the community have Christmas!” Dubois said.
