Gnanapragassen Chowriamah jumps to answer the phone. “Hi, it’s Yanem,” he says, referring to his nickname. His next few words flow effortlessly as he speaks to his sister in Creole, his native tongue.

Chowriamah, a junior, was born and raised as a Catholic in Stanley, Mauritius, an island off the coast of Africa where Hinduism makes up 60 percent of the population. [read more]

Jack Weyland says goodbye to James and Valerie Best. James is a senior from Rexburg and a former member of the BYU-Idaho 49th Ward where Weyland served as bishop. Students gathered to say farewell to Weyland, a physics professor and popular LDS fiction author, who plans to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the new year and will retire at the end of the semester.
