Planes were scheduled to land in Boise on both Saturday and Monday to bring back around 200 Idahoan troops deployed to Iraq, nearing the completion of the return of the 116th Brigade Combat Team.
The brigade fulfilled an 18-month tour of duty, 12 of those months in Iraq. Of the 3,400 soldiers in the brigade, 1,700 are Idahoans, and this is the largest deployment of the Idaho National Guard ever, said Lt. Col. Stephanie Dowling of the 116th Brigade. Hundreds of the brigade have still yet to return, but Dowling said they are shooting to have them all back by Thanksgiving. “It’s really good to see them home,” she said.
