Brandon Routh, cast to play the role of Superman in the upcoming movie Superman Returns, scheduled for release on June 30, was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 9, 1979.

When he was young, he moved to Norwalk, Iowa where he grew up. Routh attended the University of Iowa where he pursued a degree in English, but he dropped out of college before he received his degree.

Routh always had an interest in acting, and his involvement with The Norwalk Theatre of Performing Arts provided him the opportunity to begin his acting career, as he starred in many of its productions.

ABC’s television series Odd Man Out (1999) marked Routh’s first professional acting role. He later played roles in several television series, including the television series’ Gilmore Girls, Will and Grace and Cold Case.

Routh received his first professional recurring role when he was cast to play the character of Seth Anderson from May 23, 2001, to April 17, 2002, in the soap opera, One Life to Live.

Bryan Singer, director of Superman Returns, said he was looking for an unknown actor to play the role of Superman. He knew that Routh was the person that he wanted to fill the role of the superhero within minutes of meeting him, according to www.wikipedia.org.

As soon as Routh received the role of Superman, he had to learn the proper body language to fit the superhero’s character, and he did this with the help of a movement coach, according to www.imdb.com.

Routh spends his spare time playing soccer, swimming, reading, biking and playing basketball. Filming for Superman Returns began in February in Australia.
