In Roman times thin wheat cakes, representing bounty, were crumbled over the bride’s head at weddings as a symbol of anticipated fertility. Thousands of years later, wedding cakes are still a traditional part of weddings, but the appearance and use has changed dramatically.

The options and creativity available are endless. Right here in Rexburg we have a few places you can go to get a cake put together for your wedding. When shopping for wedding dresses and suits, ask for any cake decorator’s business cards.

Broulim’s is one of the cheapest places to get your cake decorated with the prices ranging from $70 to $300. Shari, the cake decorator at Broulim’s, can make a cake from scratch just going from a picture that someone brings her with a one to two weeks notice.

Albertson’s also does wedding cakes but they require you to buy the hardware that comes along with the cake such as tier supports. Broulims rents out the hardware and it’s less expensive.

When ordering a wedding cake, be sure to take certain measures to ensure your satisfaction with the finished product. One way is to tell the decorator the time of day, and the theme of the wedding. Also, don’t forget to ask about extra charges for ornaments and delivery, as they tend to add up quickly.

Traditionally the top tier of the cake is saved to be eaten on the couple’s first anniversary. The origin of this tradition comes from the top tier of the cake being saved for the day the couple’s first child was christened.

Hovever, it’s not likely that the cake will last until the first anniversary. Try the first month anniversary instead. Things will taste better all around.
