Even those with the most impressive résumés cannot escape the pivotal next step the interview. In many cases, it is the interview that makes or breaks a job opportunity. Here is a list of interviewing do’s and don’t’s, from www.quintcareers.com.
Do’s
• Be sure you know where your interview is and how long it takes to get there.
• Arrive 10 minutes early.
• Dress for success. Always dress one notch above the look of the company.
• Do your research. Know about the company you are interviewing with and anticipate difficult questions.
• Greet the receptionist with respect.
• Shake hands firmly and keep eye-contact throughout the interview.
• Greet the interviewers by title (Mr., Mrs., Ms., etc.)
• Ask intelligent questions about the job, company or title.
• Thank the people that interviewed you and express interest in hearing back from them.
Don’t’s
• Don’t chew gum during the interview.
• Don’t fidget or slouch.
• Don’t address the interviewers by their first names unless they request that you do so.
• Don’t be soft spoken. A forceful voice projects confidence.
• Don’t say anything negative about former employers or colleagues.
• Don’t ever lie or “bend the truth.” • Answer frankly, truthfully and confidently.
• Don’t answer your cell phone during the interview. Turn it off.
• Don’t answer with a “yes” or a “no.” Give specific examples that showcase your best qualities and skills.
• Dont slouch or fidget. Look confident throughout the entire interview.
