The Rexburg Standard Journal joined a growing number of newspapers like Scroll when it launched the online edition of its daily print edition Sept. 12.
Rexburg’s hometown paper has had a Web site that displayed some of its feature stories, gave subscription information, and provided access to the archives of the paper, but now anyone can go online to the Journal’s Web site and view the entire paper, the same way it appears it print form, on their computer.
In an interview, the Journal said that their main reasons for producing an online edition included making it easier for people who lived far away to be able to receive the paper at a more reasonable cost.
With the paper online, summer sunbirds and students who are away from Rexburg at different times during the year won’t have to pay to have the paper sent to them via snail-mail. The service is free to the public until Nov. 18 when a subscription fee of $2.50 a month will be charged to view the paper, roughly half the current price to have the print edition delivered daily.
The Journal isn’t the only local paper with an online edition. The Post Register has offered a digital edition of its paper since 1999.
