The newest addition to the iPod family, an iPod that plays video and music, comes just five weeks after the premiere of the iPod Nano. But the announcement has mixed reactions from iPod fans and the Hollywood TV and movie industry.
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, unveiled the new iPod video player Oct. 12, saying that Apple has made dealings with Disney to offer downloadable episodes of popular ABC series like Desperate Housewives and Lost for only $1.99, according to The Associated Press.
Hollywood’s actors, directors and writers unions said they would examine Apple’s new iPod portable video player and take care with video licencing so members get their share of residuals.
Unions for Hollywood’s actors, directors and writers said they want to make sure their members are properly compensated for “this exploitation of their work,” according to a joint statement posted by members of the Screen Actors Guild.
The new iPod comes in 30GB and 60GB models costing $299 and $399. The 60GB model is capable of storing up to 15,000 songs, 25,000 photos or 150 hours of video.
