Nathan Fillion was born and raised in Canada, where his plans to become an English teacher changed when he discovered his passion for acting in high school.
In 1994, Fillion’s professional career began when he played a reverend on ABC’s soap One Life to Live. He then played in several films including small roles in Saving Private Ryan and Blast from the Past.
Fillion continued to step up the ladder as he starred as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Joss Whedon’s television series Firefly. However, the series was prematurely canceled after only 11 episodes.
“I fell in love with the show and was crushed,’’ said Fillion, according to www.ew.com.
Whedon hoped to be able to restore the television series, but in the mean time he gave Fillion the opportunity to play Caleb, the villain preacher on the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, according to www.imdb.com.
This year, as a 34-year-old actor with 12 years of professional acting under his belt, Fillion was able to again play Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the film Serenity, “a $45 million feature reboot of Firefly,” according to www.ew.com.
Fillion is also cast in the upcoming horror film Slither, due to come out in 2006.
