BYU-Idaho students had an opportunity to go on a few speedy dates last Tuesday, Oct. 4, during a fast-paced dating activity.
Speed dating involved people going on several short dates with a number of different people.
Instead of spending two or three hours with a date who just is not going to work out, the person only has to spend 10 minutes.
At the end of the date, the couple can either exchange phone numbers and make plans for future dates or just shake hands and wish each other well.
Rachel Maul, a freshman from Kansas City, Mo., was in charge of the activity. She said it was her first project and that it turned out close to perfection.
Instead of just talking, participants chose from several activities to get to know their dates.
They could play games like Mad Libs, Scattergories, M.A.S.H., draw portraits of their dates, make some sort of clever creation or tell each other things about themselves based on the color of Skittles they chose.
“[I’m here] because I wanted to meet my eternal companion, dang it!” said Neil Stokes, a sophomore from Wellsville, Utah, with a smile on his face.
Maul said she thought there were several people exchanging numbers. “I hope [this activity] will lead to a lot of second dates,” she said.
