For the third year, the International Cultural Association will be holding a food festival and talent show, but this year with a new twist.
Ten paper globes will be placed at various locations throughout the BYU-Idaho campus.
They could be placed inside or out, but whoever finds one will receive free admission to the all the activities on Friday, Oct. 14.
“We wanted to bring a little more attention to the event and get students involved more than they had in the past, so we made the globes,” said Carlos Carrasco, a junior from Cancun, Mexico.
“Plus it will give, at least ten students, a chance to come have fun free,” he said.
Each of the 16 cultural associations will be providing a sample of authentic food from their respective countries, while student members of these organizations will be performing talents that show off some of their culture.
”It’s going to be a great opportunity for people to come and experience the different cultures we have here at BYU-Idaho,” said Angel Viveros, a junior from Leon, Mexico.
While many people will be experiencing new cultures at the event, the purpose of the night is not about what makes students different from each other.
“We want to unify the students at BYU-Idaho,” Viveros said. “It’s to show how we are all one in the gospel and how very similar we all are.”
The association is expecting about 500 people to attend on Oct. 14.
The food festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Hinckley Cultural Hall, with the talents following shortly after.
The event will last about two hours and will cost $2 for students who don’t find one of the ten hidden globes that will be put up Oct. 6.
