Native of Wisconsin, Mark Ruffalo attended Stella Adler Conservatory in Los Angeles following high school. For almost a decade he tried to land roles in television and film, but only found success in theatre, according to www.imdb.com.
It wasn’t until a chance meeting with playwright/screenwriter Kenneth Lonergan that Ruffalo found success in the film You Can Count on Me (2000).
Since then, Ruffalo’s career has accelerated with supporting and lead roles in films such as Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind (2004), 13 Going On 30 (2004), Collateral (2004), and Just Like Heaven (2005).
With all of his recent success, it is difficult to imagine that the actor was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002. Even though the tumor was found to be benign, Ruffalo still had to undergo surgery to remove it, and has fully recovered since.
“The whole experience of getting close to mortality changed my perspective on work,” Ruffalo said after his incident, according to www.imdb.com.
Ruffalo’s most recent success Just Like Heaven, opened the Sept 16. The film debuted at the top of the box office with $16.4 million, according to Entertainment Weekly.
