Students disgrace use of tithes

There seems to be a growing problem within the BYU-Idaho student body.

All too often I hear students say, “Is there anything due today?” “Did you get the assignment done? I totally forgot about it.” “I didn’t understand anything last time.” or “Oh, I just read/studied everything right before the test and I did OK.”

I sense a sort of pride in these students and what they are saying. They seem more than willing to share with their classmates the idea that they were too busy keeping up with their social life to think about their homework. Why? I wish I knew.

As a student body we have become lazy; we procrastinate far too much and we don’t take class attendance seriously.

Do we not realize that dedicated tithe payers are allowing us to come to school here? Do we not realize that the LDS church and its members pay the majority of our tuition?

Put yourself in the position of a single parent with young children. You pay an honest tithe because you love the Lord, His prophets and the good members of the Church.

Wouldn’t it then be discouraging to find out that these precious funds were going toward a student’s tuition who got only mediocre grades, who studied half of what was expected, who slept through morning classes and who cheated through a few assignments?

I ask the students attending this school to reconsider your studying habits. You have come here for many reasons. I hope one reason was to further your education and better yourself.

Remember that general classes aren’t required to torture and upset you, but to make you well rounded.

We have good professors who want you to succeed. They are here to guide and help you. Use your time here wisely and don’t waste others’ tithing.

Please study and do your homework. Please pay attention in class. Please give it your all and do your best. That’s all the tithe payers can ask for.
