Steve Carell, an actor with a “surreal, outlandish, and childish comic persona that is only enhanced by his deceptively straight-laced appearance,” according to www.barnesandnoble.com, is quickly gaining popularity in Hollywood.

Carell, a native of Concord, Mass., first worked in Chicago’s Goodman and Wisdom Bridge Theaters and the city’s Second City comedy troupe.

He debuted in the 1991 comedy Curly Sue, in the years that followed and appeared in such shows as The Dana Carvey Show, The Daily Show, and Saturday Night Live. He also had a supporting role in the short-lived sitcom Watching Ellie, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but most of his movie roles were not well-known.

In 2003, however, Carell appeared in the comedy Bruce Almighty opposite Jim Carrey and delighted audiences with his portrayal of an obnoxious television newscaster.

Soon after he joined Will Ferrell in Anchorman, playing a weather forecaster, and reteamed with Ferrell in 2005’s Bewitched, in which he had a small cameo as Isabel Bigelow’s Uncle Arthur.

Currently, Carell has a starring role in The Forty-Year-Old Virgin and may also star in Evan Almighty, a sequel to Bruce Almighty.
