A college student’s budget is understandably small but do not let it keep you from experiencing the fun Rexburg has to offer.
Sam Adams, a freshman from Westerville, Ohio loves participating in outdoor activities. Although she comes from a big city, she has not been caught in the trap of saying ‘there’s nothing to do in Rexburg.’
“There’s so much outdoor stuff to do here! How could anyone ever get bored?” she wonders.
Although it’s getting chilly out, students can still take advantage of the outdoor activities available in this area.
A bon fire will surely heat up the fun. Adams and her friends regularly head to Beaver Dick Park or the sand dunes for a fire lighting.
Whether it is hiking ‘R’ Mountain, laying out at Rigby Lake or crawling through the ice caves, the only expense is the gas to get there.
The Madison County trails are also a good option for biking, hiking and roller blading. Not only that, but there are two golf courses located within Rexburg.
For nights that call for inactivity, the drive-in or $1.50 movies are always an option.
These nights are only complete when topped off by a Horkley’s run. This entails visiting Horkley’s gas station to purchase 26-cent soda and penny candies. They also rent one-day movies for a dollar.
When feeling frugal, there is the option of collecting every free item from Starving Student cards or various discount cards. This is not considered cheap, but rather resourceful.
BYU-Idaho offers a variety of activities that range from plays to the dating derby, or more commonly known as speed dating.
When in doubt, there is usually an activity planned for students. Students wondering what activities are going on can go to the BYU-Idaho Activities Web site for a calendar of events.
“Being the poor student that I am, I think it’s a good idea to be resourceful in your activities,” Adams said.
If none of these activities strike your fancy, don’t worry there is always a back-up plan homework.
