So, there’s nothing to do in Rexburg?

I have been at BYU-Idaho for three years now and I am tired of hearing students complain there’s nothing to do in Rexburg.
The tidal wave of whiners is really beginning to get on my nerves. There really are things to do here, I promise. All one has to do is just look around. There are ample adventures waiting to be discovered in Rexburg.
This information came from a lesson well learned. I used to be among the masses of whiners. I, too, would sit down on the couch on Friday night and then proceed to rant and rave about how the only thing to do in Rexburg is to go to the movies or out to eat, both of which I could do from the comfort of my own apartment.
I even went so far to say, when asked what Rexburg was like, that it was “utterly dull and pointless.” My peers in the East believe all there is in Rexburg is a Wal-Mart and the college. In fact, most people pitied me.
That is when a loving roommate threw a pillow at my head and told me that I didn’t know what I was talking about. All I needed to do was to look and I would find hundreds of things to do in the area.
I was skeptical at first. I was 100 percent sure there was nothing to do around here. My mind was narrow and added a trip to the grocery store to my list of things to do. Then my roommate, in her infinite wisdom, invited me to go on a water adventure with her.
I agreed, only to see if there really was something to do in a town that I considered to be tiny and stuck in the nineteenth century. Then came the surprise of my life. As I rowed down the river, I realized that there is anything but a lack of things to do here.
I could go kayaking, hiking, swimming, bicycling, rock climbing, camping, go to the Sand Dunes, have a picnic, go to concerts and dances and the list could continue on forever.
There are many possibilities to explore. The whole attitude of there’s-nothing-to-do-in-Rexburg stems from one thing laziness. All of these wonderful, exciting activities take time and effort. We just need to get up off the couch and find them.
