One of the most frantic times in life is trying to figure out what to pack on your way to the hospital. It is important to remember the essential things, as well as objects that will provide comfort for childbirth.

“Pack things that will make you comfortable,” Linda Webster, registered nurse at Targhee Women’s Center, said.

One of the most essential things is clothing to wear home for yourself and the baby.

“Of course you have to take the essentials like clothes, make sure the clothes you take will fit you with a belly because you still have quite the belly for a couple weeks. The extra things that we enjoyed having were a CD player, gum, chapstick and movies or games,” Lindsey Thomason, a BYU-I graduate and mother of one, said.

Personal toiletries are also important, Webster said. Even though they can be bought at the hospital, many women feel more comfortable with their own.

Women should remember eyeglasses, if they wear them or use contacts, which they may need to take out, according to www.babycenter.com.

Maternity underwear and sanitary pads are essential for mothers to bring. according to www.surebaby.com.

Nursing pads are also important to have whether you intend to nurse or not, according to www.surebaby.com.

When packing, it is also necessary to remember what the husband will need for his stay at the hospital.

“Don’t forget food or money for your husband because the hospital usually only feeds the mother-to-be,” Thomason said.

Other good things to take include relaxing music, massagers, ice packs and tennis balls for tension, Webster said.

Many women also like to bring their favorite popsicles and candle warmers, since burning wicks are not allowed.

Books and magazines with a lot of pictures are good for both the woman and her husband to read early in labor, according to www.babycenter.com.

“In all honesty, you don’t need much because it’s such an awesome time and looking at the baby for hours on end is the best and most entertaining thing to do anyway,” Thomason said.
