Guys, what would you do if a girl brought her mother along on your date?
It may seem like a strange question, but it could happen. Especially during Mothers’ Weekend — a time when the campus is crawling with protective parents looking out for their little girl.
Another question is how many girls would actually bring their mother on a date, and why? Many girls said no, they wouldn’t take their mom.
“That would just be awkward. It would just be weird having your mom there critiquing your dating habits,” Ashley Jones, a sophomore from Evanston, Wyo., said.
Other girls said it would be fun to bring their moms on the date. They would feel bad leaving their moms alone for the night. Some of the girls felt like it was a way to scare off a guy for good, if she didn’t like him.
Now from a guy’s point of view this could be a very strange situation. Imagine going to pick up your date, and then finding that her mom is coming along. If this was the plan from the start, great, it is a way to meet the girl’s mom. But if it was a surprise it could be very bad and may end a relationship before it has even started.
The guy may be wondering if he is expected to pay for the mom as well, and why the girl agreed to go on the date in the first place if her mom was there.
Seth Graham, a sophomore from Sheboygan, Wis., said if a girl sprung the date with her mother on him he would be leery about dating her again. He feels that the mother should be considerate of her daughter’s plans and make other arrangements.
Not all guys felt that way though. Some thought having the girl’s mom along would be fun. It could be an interesting experience and a good way to learn about a girl.
John Farnsworth, a freshman from Fall City, Wash., said if having her mom along would make his date feel more comfortable then that would be fine with him.
“The more the merrier. You’ll know what she’ll look like in 20 years at least,” Dustin Brooks, a freshman from Findlay, Ohio, said.
There is an easy solution to this problem. Ladies, if you know your mom is coming to town don’t agree to go on a date. If the guy really wants to take you out he can wait for another week.
